A note about Ticonderoga pencils: The Ticonderoga brand of pencils found at Target, Staples, and Office Max is highly preferred. These pencils always sharpen evenly, have excellent, no-smudge erasers, and write very smoothly. It is SO worth it to spend the extra dollar or two on these--especially for younger students. (While Walmart does sell Ticonderogas, there is some speculation that the brand quality is not quite as good as what is sold in other stores).
