Aletheia Kindergarten

Our kindergarten program at Aletheia is both structured and fun, academic and messy, challenging and noisy, organized and playful. Time spent singing, listening to stories, painting, sculpting, and playing is equal to the time spent learning how to read, write, count, add, and subtract. The list below is a basic guideline for parents to assess their child's readiness for kindergarten at Aletheia. We also encourage prospective students and parents to visit with the headmaster and kindergarten teacher prior to enrolling.

Kindergarten readiness skills:

Count to twenty
Recognize groups of one, two, three, four, and five objects
Recognize numbers 1–12 in written form
Listen to stories without interrupting
Recognize rhyming sounds
Pay attention for short periods of time to adult-directed tasks
Understand that actions have both causes and effects
Show understanding of general times of day
Cut with scissors
Trace basic shapes
Begin to share with others
Start to follow rules
Be able to recognize and obey those in authority
Manage bathroom needs
Button shirts, pants, coats, and zip zippers
Begin to control oneself
Separate from parents without being upset
Speak understandably
Talk in complete sentences of five to six words
Look at pictures and then tell stories
Sort similar objects by color, size, and shape
